Chinese government once tested the patriotism of Uyghurs
by requiring them to compete in eating large Kuchar Nans (breads) and gnawing out the "People's Republic of China map."
The Uyghur Times recently discovered an old event organized by the Kucha County government of the Uyghur Autonomous Region (ET) in October of 2015 that requires Uyghur participants to compete in showing their patriotism by gnawing Nans out of the People's Republic of China map.
The news about the event was published on the Chinese edition website of China Radio International.
The full text of the news read as:
"On October 1, Kuqa County launched an event with the theme "Great Nan and the heart of loving China" to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the founding of New China and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region." More than 60 people of various ethnic groups from various towns and communities in the county gathered in Kuqa Da Nang City to compete. The participants competed to gnaw out the "Map of the People's Republic of China" pattern within the specified time.”
