The World Health Organization (WHO) has skipped the Greek letters "nu" and "xi" in naming the new COVID-19 variant, which it has now called the Omicron variant, Fox News reports.
The website for WHO's best practices for naming disease recommends avoiding names that would offend any cultural, social, national, regional, professional, or ethnic group.
Some Republican politicians have taken the matter to Twitter. "If the WHO is this scared of the Chinese Communist Party, how can they be trusted to call them out the next time they're trying to cover up a catastrophic global pandemic?" Senator Ted Cruz tweets.
